A quick update on current news! (3-4-16)

Please ignore the retailer info in my last post. I am no longer selling through other piping supply outfitters' retail websites. If you are here, because you wish to sell my reeds in your online shop, I regret to inform you, that I will no longer be producing practice chanter and smallpipe chanter reeds in bulk, for wholesale.

Now for the good news!

Boyd Reeds PC reed, will from this point forward, be available from me, the reed maker, to you the piper, direct. (If you are here because you are looking for one of my practice chanter reeds, please contact me directly through the form to the right of this blog.) I am still going to produce small batches for band use. (Again, if you are a PM, or manager looking to outfit your band with Boyd PC reeds, please use the contact form, to the right of this blog.)

My apologies, but at this time, I am not producing any smallpipe chanter reeds for sale.
Further -I am also going to occasionally sell my practice chanter reeds through my eBay account, in addition to direct ordering. My user name on eBay is "boyd_reeds" -I will post an update here on my blog, once I have some for sale on eBay again.

Big thanks to all my loyal Boyd PC reed players, and I look forward to the continuation of working with the piping community, worldwide! :)
Stay tuned! ;)

A Fresh batch of my practice chanter reeds, ready to post to their new owners!

My practice chanter reeds, are accurately tuned, have plenty of volume, great thick and rich tone, don't cut off easily when overblown, and play without all the growls, squeaks, squawks, and double-toning that many polymer bladed double reeds often possess. They are made of the finest materials: No polystyrene blades here! My blades are made from a high quality polyester film stock. I completely form my reed blades, using my own method of heat setting, by hand, from scratch. Most modern drum heads, are also made using polyester, as it has excellent resonant qualities, and is very durable. This polymer is ideal for synthetic practice chanter, and Scottish smallpipes chanter reeds. My reeds blades are wound, and tied, to a seamless 3/16" brass staple, using a special type of high performance, high strength thread, that's 50% polyamide / 50% polyester, then wrapped in layers of PTFE. My reeds may at first look similar to some other practice chanter reeds out there, but I assure you, they couldn't be more different. My practice chanter reeds work in most makes of practice chanter, but work especially well in long type accurately tuned true scale practice chanters, made by McCallum, Naill, Dunbar, Gibson, MacLellan, Lindsey, and others. (Including the Colin Kyo PC!)

Please refer to the next blog posting, for current retail information on my reeds. They can now be purchased from several suppliers, online.

Easy strength is my 'Standard'

I have worked very hard to bring these reeds to market, and am very proud of, and stand by the quality of my work, 100%

 -Jay (Maker of Boyd Reeds)
